Mission:
Atlantic Trouble
Location: USS Ermiana & RMS Titanic
It had been nearly an hour since Captain Misaka had sent out the distress call using the Titanic's marconi wireless equipment. The Titanic's bow was now underwater, the bridge was also now gone along with the captains quarters, forward poop deck and the first class dining room. The once elegant grand staircase and elevators were also gone, the freezing Atlantic waters claiming it only a few minutes ago.
The sound of people panicking, screaming, shouting and crying out filled the air. The crew had lost control as everyone started to only fend for themselves. The ship creaked and the sound of metal bending accompanied the screams. Windows shattered with the sound of breaking glass and people were sucked back into the ship by the force of the water only to be trapped by rising water.
The Atlantic water smashed through the intricate glass and ironwork dome above the grand staircase. Submerging the famous staircase in water forever. People clambered and pushed towards the stern as the huge bronze propellers started to rise out of the water.
The guide wires designed to hold up the number two funnel started to snap. One by one they twanged off the funnel. Then slowly the huge funnel started to lean, falling to one side and crashing down on people in the water below sending them to icy watery graves.
Titanic was a lost cause, there was nothing that could be done now to save the once most luxurious and largest ship in the world.
[Towards the stern]
Misaka had managed to get her 'real' crew towards the stern. She had ditched the black captains jacket and hat a while ago. Now just in her white dress shirt and trousers she held onto a railing with the others.
"I think we're going down with thos damn ship!" She shouted to them over the chaos. "Hopefully someone on Ermiana got our message!"
"I think it's a little late for that now!" Eila responded. "I just wanted to say... If this is how we die... It's been an honor to serve with you, Captain!"
"No one is dying today!" Misaka replied. "You're all Starfleet officers. Actually on your survival training. Once this ship goes under, find something to float on. Don't stay in the water!"
At this point, Eila turned to her girlfriend, who was holding onto the rail next to her:
"You still have that lifejacket from earlier, hun?" She asked.
Sanya wordlessly responded by tugging at the lifejacket that she wore.
"Great; once we get in the water, let's be prepared to use it." Eila instructed.
[Outside the holodeck]
Lurath walked down the corridor, carrying a duffle bag and looking like he had gone through Sto'Vo'Kor only to walk back again empty handed. The Dahar Master Rorek had insisted on locking him and the others away in their own holodeck in order to progress their training, shutting out the outside world and what was going on for a much longer period of time Lurath had expected. He would have objected, but the Dahar Master was adamant that in order for them to fulfill their obligations as his students they must adhere to traditions. It was only when they were released from the program that Lurath was made aware of what was going on.
The Half Betazoid and Half Klingon placed the bag down to check the Holodeck controls outside the door. Even though it had probably already be attempted, he tried shutting down the program and bypassing the door controls. None of them worked. So, it was time for some Klingon ingenuity. He unzipped the bag to reveal several explosives. He began to place them strategically around the door, magnetizing them to the door, in order to breach it. It was his thought that, due to protocols written into every ships code, that given enough damage, the program would terminate and free the crew. Protocols like this were built into the every ship in order, in the event of a surprise attack, anyone inside using the holodeck would have enough time to get to safety or to their stations. It was Lorath's hope that, despite the potential damage it would cause, the goal was to save those inside and deal with the repercussions later. Once he placed the last charge, he reached down and picked up the duffle bag, before walking over to one of the divides.
"Computer, engage force fields on either side of the Holodeck doors on my command." Lorath said firmly.
"Wait..." Wendy said as she rounded the corner. "Commander, what are you planning on doing?" She asked. "We've tried cutting power, we're just about to try and force the doors open as a last resort."
"So am I... Technically." Lorath replied as he set the detonator in his hand. As the force fields went up, he took an additional few steps back. "Computer, add another layer of force fields, plus add them to the walls across from the holodeck doors and on either side." He added a slight shrug. "Just in case."
"Are those explosives?!" Wendy asked with horror. "Are you going to blow the doors open?!"
Lurath looked over to Marvell and raised a brow before replying. "I won't lie to you. Yes.... yes they are." He looked back towards the door and shrugged. "It's my theory that by causing damage to the door, the Holodeck system's protocol will trigger and cause a shutdown of the room, assuming there is an attack to allow for the holodecks power, which is classified as unessential, so that power could be used for more important systems like shields and weapons. Best case scenario: The program shut down and those inside are free. Worst Case: There is enough damage done to the doors that it gives the people inside way out."
"Theoretically it should work." Wendy replied. "However, those are reinforced doors similar to the ones to the cargobays. However if you place explosives at the points where the doors attach, we can loosen them enough they'll open. But if you blow the motors they'll become jammed." She pointed from the otherside of the forcefield towards the gaps where the doors divide apart for clarification.
Lorath stood there for a moment, looking at the door, thinking about what the Ensign had said. After a few seconds, he nodded his head and called for the forcefield closest to them be put down. He proceeded to walk over and adjust the placement of each explosive on the door as she had suggested, double checking the yield of each device before walking back. "You know... you can still walk away from this, Ensign. I'll take all the blame from this if it comes down to it. This is my idea and it's obviously not the smartest of solutions. You can walk away and forget you ever saw me."
"I could sir yes. But you are second officer. Plus, it's best I stay. If this goes wrong and you get hurt, you'll need someone to get medical down here. And if the holodeck decides to spill out the Atlantic Ocean, which is in there; then you're going to need an engineer to help contain it." Wendy replied.
"You realize, Ensign, that's not how holodecks work. Whatever is inside can't materialize on this side of the door. There is no chance the Atlantic Ocean is going to spill out into this corridor. It will dematerialize the moment it gets passed the threshold." Lurath said as he stood by the Ensign and took a deep breath. "Computer, raise the force field in front of us again." He said the force field turned on, emitting the familiar red glow. "However, I am pretty sure we'll need an engineer regardless considering how dangerous this is. You might want to call for a medical team... just in case."
Wendy nodded. "Marvell to Sickbay. Can you send an few medical officers down to Holodeck Two. As a precautionary measure..." she said as she tapped her comm badge. She looked back at Lurath. "I have to ask sir... does the bridge know what you're going to do? An explosion no matter how small isn't exactly an 'everyday thing' around here..."
"Don't worry, Ensign. I can assure you the Chief of Security and Second Officer is fully aware of what I am doing." Lurath replied with a smirk. "Okay... Here we go." He said as he took a hold of Wendy's arm to pull her close in a way to protect her as much as he could. He than raised the hand with the detonator and took a deep breath. "May the Warrior King Kahless and the Four Deities of Betazed watch over us." Lurath suddenly took two more steps away before closing his eyes and gripping the small Wendy tightly before saying. "Of all the stupid things for you to do, Lurath... this is by far the stupidest." Just as he hit the trigger on the detonator.
